Recent News & Information
Thank you to all of the volunteers who care for the cemetery, whether it is an organized event or just caring for your neighbors' spaces, plantings, or cleaning their monument, Thank you!
Dates to remember: This year we have our country's 250th birthday. We have our maker and founders at every level to thank for that. Our history, some of which is found at the Wayne Co. Historical Society (on Bowman St.) and the Wayne County Library. Our section 76 was created in 1976 in honor of our country's Bicentennial. The Wooster cemetery has its own special birthday coming up, in 2027 the cemetery will be 175 years old.
Additional information- a map is available on this site. We have many new areas (sections) that are open and are being used which can make it harder to locate someone that is buried. We can help you locate your family and friends. The office is open 8-4:30 or you may call 330-264-9090. These new sections have many spaces available for purchase also
Welcome
Wooster Cemetery officially started in 1852 and sits on what was an old oak forest. Several of those old oaks remain. Today a variety of trees, deciduous and conifer are found throughout the cemetery.
The cemetery mirrors Wooster in that we have folks from all walks of life. This was true when the cemetery and the town were young and is true today. Since the cemetery was started many things have changed, instead of a horse drawn carriage leading a procession through the main gate, today we have an automobile hearse leading the procession.
The cemetery is a quiet place to visit many days throughout the year, though on one of your visits you may see us busy serving one of our families, maintaining and beautifying it too. To help serve the community better (with activities and improvements) we are beginning a 501-c-3 organization (Friends of Wooster Cemetery). By checking in with us on this web site or on Facebook, you will be able to keep up to date on our activities.
